25. Port Lincoln and Adelaide

Thursday, 15 NOV 2012, and Friday, 16 NOV

Port Lincoln is a major shipping hub at the point of the Eyre Peninsula west of Adelaide. The dock is dominated by grain silos and the conveyors to move the grain out onto the ships.

Have you ever wondered how they ship all those new cars? This is called a floating brick by the locals. The cargo is totally enclosed to protect the cars from salt spray.

The next day we went on to Adelaide and visited the Blue Penguin reserve on Granite Island, which is just across the causeway for the touristy Victor Harbor. The birds are also called Fairy Penguins or just Little Penguines.

We met the biggest of the diminutive creatures:
Then on into the Penguin Center to see the real thing. I am not including any photos of the li'l darlings because it was dark and, frankly, I didn't find them that interesting. They're just little penguins.

There's lots more to see and do in Adelaide, and we are looking forward to our independent visit right after Christmas. Stay tuned.
